Dr. Varun Rai

Dr Varun Rai, Senior Consultant in department of ENT and head and neck surgery at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital was the first person to successfully perform Sialendoscopy in the private sector in North India back in 2015. He was trained by the pioneers in the field including Dr Francis Marchal in Geneva, Prof Capaccio in Milan and Dr Michael Koch in Germany. Since then, he has performed more than 2000 successful cases of sialendoscopy ranging from stones, strictures and complex cases where previous failed attempts were done.

He is a reputed national and international faculty actively involved in training multiple doctors in this technique. He has also been instrumental in setting up sialendoscopy centres all over North India and countries like Algeria, Sri Lanka and Malaysia.

Laser Fragmentation and removal of deep submandibular duct stone

45 year old male with recurrent swelling and pain of submandibular gland had findings of deep 5mm stone in intraglandular portion of submandibular duct. The stone was broken into fragments with Holmium Laser and removed using baskets without any cut or major surgery.

Parotid duct stenosis endoscopic management

The most common obstruction to parotid duct salivary outflow is narrowing of the duct. The stenosis of the duct is managed using serial dilatation with Sialendoscopy with preservation of gland, its function and in a completely scarless fashion.
